Season: Across the Seasons

Icy hues watched the couples dance; twirling about gracefully with perfect, practiced, faux smiles. Each set that glided across his vision was one that was either matched, or seeking a match of their own. Each pair was putting on airs as the slightly warm spring breeze wafted in from an open balcony window. He couldn’t help but wonder how much of it was fake, and how much was genuine.

“Andrealphus was never good at compromise, but he was slowly starting to get the hang of it. He had to, whether he wanted to or not, because if he wished for Vassago to stay, he had to learn to give a little.

There had been some touch-and-go moments at the beginning. Vassago was very stern about his demands before he would even think about holding Andrealphus’ fucking hand. From taking accountability for Stolas’ downfall, promises to leave the ex-prince alone, and lastly, accepting that he wouldn’t always get his way.”

“If this was a fairy tale, it would have started with ‘once upon a stupid idea’.

Andrealphus knew that the kings of the deep hated the demons above the water’s surface; yet the merciless darkness of the oceans left him restless and bored. That was what brought him here, to the peninsula of craggy rock and sand-wasted land that lay beyond the shadow of the great castle of earth and sky.”

“The story you are about to read has been retold throughout the ages; a timeless classic that has withstood the passage of time. Some authors view the following events as the corruption of innocence; that those in power will take whatever and whoever they want, regardless of the consequences it may bring. However I, my beloved readers, align myself with the authors that view this tale as one of autonomy; of breaking free from the expectations of others and seeking your own path.

There will be romance, there will be angst, but most of all you naughty readers, there will be smut. So settle down and get comfortable as I bring to you a Hades and Persephone retelling with a Helluva twist.”

“Greetings, Cursed One,

You and two of your family have been chosen to attend Queen Ryujin’s fifth ever 75th birthday! The celebrant herself shall be hosting festivities within her Third Kingdom…”

Business Vacation
“To my friend, Vassago:

I write this under the light of the snow moon. My guardians are asleep, and although they do not frown upon my writing past bedtime, for even a student must have late nights to study, I do not wish them to discover these letters.

Some months back, you posited that we would meet up outside the usual parties. It was a very daring suggestion. I’m incredibly amazed at the loose leash your own parents give you! The idea was tempting, but I fretted over whether my guardians would permit such a venture…”

Fallen Trunks
“To Paimon, Lord of Abiayalan, the Forest Continent

Paimon, I write to you of a grave matter. The rumors have been running around the royal halls, and they must have reached your ears by now. If not so, then I must apologize to be the bearer of such news…”

Coniferous
“To Prince Vassago of Kgari,

Yes, I was there when Stolas’s trial happened. It is unfortunate that such a Goetia could fall to such ways, but I must admit, I did not think he had it within himself to do all that. It’s quite novel, hiring imps to play your political games for you, but it’s cheating isn’t it? I know you didn’t say it in your last letter, but I solemnly swear I had nothing to do with Stolas’s schemes, or any of Andrealphus’s for that matter. I hope you had the observation skills to notice how that peacock was acting during the trial, but as always, no other Goetia wanted to follow up on it. Neither did I, really…”
